PE Happenings!
Bike to School Day will be celebrated on May 15th and we will have some incentives for biking to school on that day!
May 21st we are having a Jog-A-Thon!!!! In PE we are working on throwing, catching, striking, and softball/baseball lead-up skills. Our school had 106 students run in the Duck Dash and we had the first and second place runners!!! Most importantly I think everyone had a great time!!! In PE we worked on invasion strategies, some teamwork activities, and learning some new recess style games that incorporate our growing object movement skills. We will be introducing some lead up softball and baseball skills soon. This April we started a before school running club and our students have already ran more than 1,000 miles! You can click on Jogging Jags for more information. February and March have been great! Our school raised over $2,000 for the American Heart Association, U of O Lacrosse ran a fun intro to Lacrosse clinic during PE, we worked on volleyball skills, invasion games (offensive and defensive strategies- aka leprechaun catching,) Minecraft yoga, a literacy camp night, and are introducing Spikeball skills. |
We had a had a fabulous start to 2019! We started the year with cooperation activities (Standard 4) and had a great turnout for our family engagement night. In January and starting February we teamed with the America Heart Association to learn about our hearts while helping others with unique hearts. In upper grades we found heart rates, long ropes, short ropes, partner jumping, and lessons aimed to help make us aware of how and why we need to take good care of our heart (standard 3). The younger grades are worked on balance and jumping skills, beginning jump rope, long rope with a teacher turning, and heart health with the fun heart association characters.
November and December we worked on object movement skills. From ambidexterity with Speed Stacks (we helped set a Guinness Record for most people stacking in 24 hours), to manipulative skills with throwing, catching, football, basketball, and hockey skills (standards 1 and 2). The students are doing amazing!!! We had and awesome jingle jog, flash mob, and some fun winter fitness stations before winter break! |
In October we worked on components of fitness (standard 5). The upper grades participated in fitness testing and setting goals. Younger grades are learned about their hearts, differentiating walking/jogging/running, and moving and tagging safely. When we have self control we can accomplish so much more!
We started off this year working on shared space, personal space, and problem solving.
We introduced playground games and had a great soccer unit. Students worked on dribbling, ball control, teamwork, and accuracy. From ball taps, pull backs, and dribbling games we had fun time utilizing our skills in games like Pirates, King of the Cone, and Soccer Skillastics.
Last week almost half of the school found a way to walk and roll (bike or scooter) to school.
We also worked on teamwork and listening skills in the parachute.
