Jogging Jags
Jogging Jags is a daily running club for grades K through 5th that provides a positive and healthy opportunity for our children to develop a daily routine of physical exercise. Regular before school exercise also helps increase attentiveness and behavior in the classroom. EEF and Fuel Up to Play 60 have funded the timing program and charms to support this program.
Membership is free and you can join any time. The benefits are priceless! We start at 7:50 a.m. every morning before school begins and end at 8:06 (those students on the track will continue until they finish the lap in progress,) which allows time to be in the cafeteria for when they are called for class. Grab and go breakfasts are available if they are unable to eat before. On the field next to the school we will follow the path and run, skip, walk, leap, or hop as many laps as you can and earn a credit for each lap! Fun events, special incentives, and making friends along the way are just a few of the great aspects of joining!
This is how it works: every student in grades K-5 will be issued a lanyard with a badge and personalized bar code. Volunteers scan these bar codes when the children complete each lap around the track. The electronic information is then uploaded to a program called EZScan where progress in stored and they can earn rewards!
***We may move or cancel running club if the weather is not cooperating or the track is too muddy. Please make sure you are on Dojo so you can receive these notifications.

Jogging Jags Positive Rewards for Students
Great Health and Brain Development: Research shows that when we exercise, blood pressure and blood flow increase everywhere in the body, including the brain. More blood means more energy and oxygen, which makes our brain perform better. The best reward is a healthy mind and body.
Charms: Every 10 miles the student will get recognized in PE and earn a charm that they can put on their running lanyard. These are awesome little accomplishments! I had a 16 year old cross country runner send me a picture of his tokens hanging in his room saying it’s still one of his most prized accomplishments.
Celebration: Top students in the running club will will be invited to participate in an end of year celebration. Each student who is eligible to attend the party and celebration. There will be an awards ceremony to recognize the top runners!
When is Running Club? Every morning, Monday through Friday, before school. Running time is from 7:50am to 8:06 am. We will not run if it is raining heavily or the track is too wet/muddy.
How many laps does it take to run 1 mile? 4 laps around our track equals 1 mile.
Can parents get involved? Absolutely! Parents are needed to arrive at 7:50 to help set and some parents each day to use the handheld scanners to scan bar codes (typically this is a rotating group of parents who are willing and available). We also need assistance planning and coordinating the end of year party. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the form below. Please park in designated parking spots.
Can parents RUN? We would love it! Come out and get some morning exercise and bonding time with your child. The students love to see adults out there running too.
Can my child get mileage credit for races (5K or 10K) done outside of school? Students will ONLY get running club mileage credit for laps completed during running club. No outside credit will be given with the possible exception of school sponsored events (i.e. Duck Dash and Jog-a-Thon) at the discretion of Ms. Fisher. We will announce those events as needed.
